Saying The Adhan To A Baby

As soon as a muslim baby is born first words he or she will hear is the Adhan, the call to prayer. This has special meaning, as it means that the first words the baby hears are about the One God and the relationship, as a muslim, to God. As soon as the baby is born the parent or an adult will whisper the words in the baby’s right ear.

Allahu Akbar God is Great (said four times)

Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah I bear witness that there is no god except the One God. (said two times)

Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God. (said two times)

Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah Hurry to the prayer (Rise up for prayer) (said two times)

Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah Hurry to success (Rise up for Salvation) (said two times)

Allahu Akbar God is Great [said two times]

La ilaha illa Allah There is no god except the One God

When a Muslim baby is born, it is welcomed into the family. This is done by making sure that the first word that the baby hears is Allah.
Muslims marriage ceremonies are often held at home. The man and woman exchange vows in front of witness. The marriage is then blessed by reading form the Quran.
When a Muslim dies, the funeral is a simple event. The body is buried as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours of death. After death, the body is washed and then wrapped in layers of white cloth. Often the body is taken to a mosque and then imam, or someone who was close to the deceased, says the funeral prayer. Muslims place the body into the ground. The face of the body is turned so that it is facing the direction of the holy city Mecca.
